How It Works
How Selling Your Stories, Pictures and Videos works
Selling your story, picture or video to a newspaper or magazine can seem an intimidating process – but it needn’t be. Our team of journalists will guide you through from start to finish. You will have complete control over where your story or picture is printed and at what price.
We can place your story exclusively with one publication – which often achieves the highest price – or get the widest possible exposure by distributing it to every national newspaper in one hit. As part of South West News Service, we can offer you that choice.
Once you have made contact your case will be assigned to one of our journalists or picture editors. They will then have an initial discussion over the phone (or in person if required), getting a few more details about your situation and what we can achieve for you. We can advise you on the best way to proceed without any pressure to commit.
We will then approach suitable publications on your behalf and let you know the feedback. Once we’re all happy, the deal will probably require you to sign a contract to guarantee your payment and protect the publication which has bought your story.
If you’re selling a picture or video, that’s pretty much it. You just wait for the picture to be published and await payment.
If you’re selling a story, you’ll need to do a full interview with one of our journalists or a representative from the publication which has bought your story. Depending on the deal, you will be probably be asked to approve what is submitted for publication.
